Still, Lives
Still Lives
On this project I strive to make photographs of junk feel paradoxically alive. I have created surreal abstractions that imagine a world where inanimate objects suggest a range of human experiences such as connection and sensuality.
In my rural community there is no trash pickup, so I haul my own garbage and recyclables to the town dump. The place is a landscape of possibility filled with near-obsolete machinery and debris left behind out of the recycling stream. Some cast offs looked like alien life forms.
To me, the things in my town dump have beauty. I have been photographing them for years. While the images have been digitally repurposed to imply organicity, they retain their industrial decrepitude, textures and colors. Born junk, they now live.
